Theodore J. Trauner, Jr., P.E., P.P., is Principal and Chief Executive Officer of TRAUNER CONSULTING SERVICES, INC. He has extensive experience in surety completion, construction management, inspection, contract administration, scheduling, partnering facilitation, and engineering on many types of construction projects. He has been involved with the analysis, presentation and resolution of claims on numerous projects, including chemical process plants, petrochemical facilities, fossil fuel fired and nuclear power plants, pollution control facilities, wastewater treatment and collection systems, hospitals, medical research and development facilities, dams, airports, bridges, highways, tunnels, mass transit, sports and entertainment arenas, and low and hirise construction projects.
Mr. Trauner was formerly a Senior Consultant for a major consulting firm specializing in claims preparation. Prior to that he was Chief Engineer and Project Manager for a construction management consulting firm. Mr. Trauner has been involved with construction projects with an aggregate value in excess of 20 billion dollars and has worked on construction claims totaling in excess of 1 billion dollars. In addition to his construction experience, Mr. Trauner has taught review courses for the Professional Engineers Examination at Widener College and at the U.S. Military Academy. He has conducted seminars on structural analysis, steel design, and reinforced concrete design for the U.S. Air Force Strategic Air Command and has lectured nationwide on construction claims and construction project management. Mr. Trauner has been a featured speaker for the Associated General Contractors National Convention and the Federal Aviation Administration National Conferences.
In addition to experience in the private sector, Mr. Trauner was an officer in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for eleven years. During that time he was involved with major engineering projects both in the United States and in the Republic of Viet Nam. While with the Corps of Engineers, Mr. Trauner was Military Assistant to Construction Operations of the Philadelphia District, where he was Resident Engineer for a major highway bridge rehabilitation, was involved with the construction of major gravity earth dams, and also advised on regulatory affairs for the District waterways. He was an Assistant Professor and Course Director in the Department of Engineering at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York.
Mr. Trauner has published numerous articles in periodicals such as Constructor Magazine, Constructioneer, Construction Litigation Reporter, etc. He has also authored four informative construction texts entitled "Bidding and Managing Government Construction," "Construction Delays," "Managing the Construction Project," and "Construction Estimating From Take-Off to Bid." Mr. Trauner developed the National Highway Institute training manual entitled "Highway Construction Contract Claims Handling and Avoidance" and has led numerous seminars for the FHWA throughout the country.
Mr. Trauner is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in General Engineering. He attended the University of California at Berkeley, where he received his Master of Engineering degree in Structural Engineering and Structural Mechanics. He then attained his M.B.A. degree from Long Island University. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Texas, Tennessee, Virginia and Washington. He is also a registered Professional Planner in the state of New Jersey.
Mr. Trauner is a member of Who's Who in Leading American Executives. In addition, he is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), the Project Management Institute (PMI), the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA), the American Board of Forensic Examiners, The Florida Institute of Consulting Engineers (FICE), and the American Arbitration Association.
