Soccer Posts 4-1 Record
By Lea Kiefer '00
Even before the new school year began, the Varsity boys' soccer
team launched its season. The team played its first game on August 29th and
came away with a 2-1 victory against Plymouth Whitemarsh. Senior Keith
Zeuner and Junior Alex Poor both tallied goals to lift the Pats over
neighboring PW.
The second game of the season came two weeks ago as the guys faced
Abington Friends. The boys disposed of AFS easily as freshman Jordan Guynn
registered two goals and Alex Poor had one, to handily defeat the Kangaroos
3-0. Goaltenders Steve Brown and Mark Heere split time in goal and played
extremely well to post the shut out.
The most recent victory came against Valley Forge Military Academy,
during which the guys dominated the game and overpowered their opposition
to come away with a 5-0 win. Scoring for GA were: Ben Haaz, Alex Poor,
Keith Zeuner, Jon Reusch, and Jon Goldberg, who also registered two
assists. Other team stand-outs include sophomore Evan Beard, who has
controlled the opposing offenses at right fullback, and returning senior
Raimee Bateman, who has played every minute this year and has dominated at
midfield.
The team, which has so far posted a 4-1 record, has yet to play its
first league game. The first league game will take place at Malvern Prep
on October 7th. The team has a tough schedule this year, facing the
Haverford School, one of the top ranked teams in South Eastern
Pennsylvania, and powerhouses like Episcopal and Chestnut Hill Academy.
The team's future looks bright, however. They have leaders in the senior
class, and a talented cast of supporting players. We all look forward to
watching and supporting the rest of the boy's soccer season.
