CELEBRATING 21ST CENTURY
WELDING FITTING TECHNOLOGY TODAY
BESTWELD, manufacturers of cold formed pipe fittings, and NAVAL SURFACE WARFARE CENTER
LABORATORIES take pride and pleasure in announcing the development of a new family of cold
formed socket welded pipe fittings. Navy strong, burst and fatigue tested, Code recognized and commercially
competitive, these WORLD CLASS fittings manufactured in the U.S.A., exceeding the highest
standards of quality, offer the following features:
- 1/2 to 12 NPS sizes.
- All common materials in lighter wall thickness’. Standard (Schedule 40) wall thickness is also available
in most materials and sizes.
- Simple pipe end preparation - cut-off and deburring tools, only.
- Fast pipe end preparation - approximately 75% less labor time than a butt joint preparation.
- Matches B 1 6.9 fitting burst pressures.
- Exceeds B16.9 fitting fatigue performance in sizes less than 6" IPS (Even when B16.9 fitting buttweld
is 100%).
- Rated for 100% joint efficiency in fatigue calculations without radiographic verification. Compare to
B16.9 fitting butt weld efficiencies of 60% for partial penetration procedures and 80% for full penetration
procedures without radiographic verification.
- Better welding attributes than any other welding fitting design.
- Fillet weld geometry can be visually verified for size and quality.
- Quality fillet welds more easily attained than quality buttwelds.
- Nearly equal pipe and fitting wall thickness’ provides good thermal mass matching.
- Light weight fittings - approximately the same as other cold formed fittings, lighter than cast fittings and
much lighter than forged fittings.
- Lower fluid pressure line losses compared to cast fittings, much lower compared to forged fittings.
- No rework as a result of porosity or "tramp" elements, as in castings.
- Lower inventory costs because reducing fittings can be site-made from reducing components.
- Easy to clean. Recommended for clean systems with particle count standards including fuel, lubricating
oil and hydraulic oil systems. Recommended for potable water. Not recommended for food and beverage
services where bacteriological standards apply to products which can spoil.
