Bestweld, Inc. provided prototypes and design support for the newly approved "wrought" stainless steel and copper nickel "belled-end" fittings. This fitting design proved equal in burst but superior in fatigue testing has been approved for all P2 pressurized piping systems. The "wrought" belled-end design affords the installer with considerable savings versus buttwelding and eliminates significant rework costs associated with the welding of non-ferous castings. This design is a quantum reliability enhancement to naval pressurized piping systems. A commercial specification dedicated to this fitting design and ABS approval is expected in early 1997.
