Scallions, Chives, Garlic and Onion Greens

Wild Scallions Attention Vocalists:
Free scallions abound in the Fall and Spring. The ones pictured were found during October in Everhart Park, West Chester, PA.

Scallions, chives, garlic and onion greens are great for voice and throat remedies, as well as, wellness and prevention. Onions (Allium Sphaerocephalon) are a natural antiseptic and antibacterial and may help cure Laryngitis. Scratchy and/or sore throats can be soothed and perhaps rendered usable by consuming onion greens. Organosulfurs are part of the allium (onion) family of phytochemicals. Reuters Health says, "Compounds, such as allicin, may have benefits on the immune system, assist the liver in rendering carcinogens harmless, and reduce production of cholesterol in the liver. These compounds are found in garlic, leeks, onions, chives, scallions, and shallots." The greens also contain chlorophyll which has additional health benefits when eaten raw.
