News Gleaner wins four PNPA Keystone Awards A report on how local children cope with their parents' cancer, and coverage of a Frankford robbery gone awry, earned the Northeast News Gleaner two first place Keystone Awards from the Pennsylvania Newspaper Publishers Association. The paper captured four Keystone Awards overall. Staff writer David J. Foster won first place in the category Family Life Story for "When Cancer Hits Home," his examination of how children brave their parents' diagnoses. Foster and former staff writer Kevin Cooney shared a first place finish for spot News for "Bedlam at Bridge St.," their stories on the botched robbery of a Frankford financial exchange office. "This Classroom is a MicroSociety," Foster's report on FitzPatrick Elementary School's innovative educational experiment took Second Place for Feature Story. Foster also won an Honorable Mention in the category Business Story for his article "Wing Nuts to Peanuts," which examined how the small manufacturers of the lower Northeast became the backbone of the city's industrial base.
