Softball tournament keeps alive the essence of Christa Lewis

Before presenting the winners trophy, an emotional Craig Lewis remembered his daughter Christa on the second anniversary of her tragic death. Surrounded by friends, neighbors and community Lewis let his emotions flow as thoughts of that night filled the listeners with tears.

But tears pass in the light of triumph. This place where Christa met her fate has become a symbol of love, hope and unity. The Christa Lewis Tot lot and mural are reflections of love for her friends and their feelings for her. Hope comes in the form of scholarships to kids from Vogt recreation center, Our Lady of Consolation, and St Huberts High School. All were attended and loved by Christa. Especially dear to the Lewis's is the knowledge that the first St. Huberts recipient will be a classmate and friend of Christas.

United in one cause, eighteen teams and many sponsors donated from $100 to $150 dollars each toward the scholarship fund, then played three days of competitive slow pitch softball until Joes Beef and Beer on Frankford near Tyson beat a team sponsored by Romar construction to take the tournament.. The winners received a trophy and jackets, the neighbors - three great days with a lot of fun, and the Lewis's - the love of good friends.
