(Doctor of Osteopathy): Dr. Nielsen graduated from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She did postgraduate training in Family Medicine and Psychiatry and also took additional training in the art of Osteopathic Manipulation. She firmly believes in and adheres to the bio-psycho-social model of medicine. She practices holistically and at each visit looks at all facets of your life and how they are affecting one another. Dr. Nielsen is engaged in research and curriculum development in the area of Empathy in the doctor/patient relationship. She aims to show the importance of the therapeutic alliance between physician and patient. She has received several awards for this work. Dr. Nielsen lived in New York City where she ran the consulting firm, Manhattan Healthstyles, and was a professor of Lifestyle Management and Empathy in Medicine at Marymount Manhattan College. She was featured in the January 5-11, 2006 issue of the magazine Time Out: NY. After completing her post graduate training at Kennedy Health System in New Jersey, Dr. Nielsen recently returned to practice in New York City. Dr. Nielsen maintains balance in her own life through nutrition, exercise, creativity, social interaction and reflection. Dr. Nielsen is an active member of the American Osteopathic Association |
