SANDIA NATIONAL LABORATORY
In early 1997, Sandia Labs became a contractor to the US' National Institute
of Justice (NIJ), the latter a research and development arm of the US Department
of Justice. In its capacity as an NIJ contractor, Sandia investigates new-wave
high-tech equipment for sniper-detection, EM & plasma disrupters (which can
physically damage explosive devices like bombs without detonating them) and
firearms and explosive detection devices.
